I think the secret to mindfulness is judgement. It's funny because so often people think that judgment is the opposite of what you are aiming for. It's frequently looked at as wrong. At least in my own connotations of the word. I think the truth is judgment is humanity's saving grace. We have to recognize. After we recognize… we judge it. We categorize it. We place it.
Maybe the word lovers out there will come for me. They'll tell me I don't know what judgment means that the word I am describing is some difficult to pronounce jeopardy winning multi syllable mallarky. I am not snubbing you word lovers. Only trying to remind you to be aware of your judgments.
The average American (where I live and what I would say I have to consider myself ) has a 7th - 8th grade reading level. If that statistic doesn’t hit for you, how about 21% of U.S. adults are classified as functionally illiterate.
Let me draw you a picture I think we can all understand in this economy. If you have $100 then 21 percent would be; $21. Now think about the value of $21 that was nearly the price I paid for a breakfast sandwich and a latte today.
My friends I would love to know…
What do you think functionally illiterate means? Judge it. While you are thinking about that, also consider where does this oppression come from?
