This original painting was done at my first ever live painting event. It was my first time painting a peacock and it truly felt like the best choice possible to represent my home city of Ferndale MI. These beautiful birds are not born loud and dazzling, they begin almost camo colored squeaky little things. It amazes me that they blossom into these unforgettable iconic birds. This moment on canvas and in journal form honors queer pride, representation, and the courage it takes to show up and be seen. BEFORE you feel ready BEFORE you feel perfect, BEFORE you feel seen. Growth is loud. Color takes time. You are not unfinished, you are in motion.
AND you deserve to take up space exactly as you are. I am glad you made it here today.
